Zika Virus in Singapore Probably Evolved From Southeast Asian Lineage
The Zika virus behind an outbreak in Singapore was not imported from South America, Singapore’s Ministry of Health said in a statement Saturday.
Ed Rybicki’s insight:
This is important – because it SHOULD be taken into account by the doom and gloomers, who claim Zika’s spreading everywhere.
Because it means Zika was ALREADY there – and that the "spread" is local expansion from pre-existing virus reservoirs, or re-introduction from a source considerably closer than South America. Who got it from the Pacific islands anyway, who almost certainly got it from South-East Asia in the first place!
